Put your walking shoes on for Genesys Health System’s 6th annual Reunion With a Cause, to raise money for cancer patients and their families.
The event will kick off at 5:30 p.m. Friday, August 14 at the Holly High School football field, 6161 E Holly Rd.
The evening begins with survivor registration. Anyone who has survived, or is living with cancer is eligible to register at no charge. Survivors are invited to participate in a Survivors Victory Lap – the first lap of the evening -- and eat food (courtesy of The Villager restaurant) in the Survivor Tent.
The event features entertainment and DJ, family activities, various raffles including a 50/50, and refreshments.
At nightfall, the lights on the field are turned off and the luminaries are lit for the Luminary Ceremony. Luminaries are small white paper bags that have been decorated in memory or celebration of a loved one, and can be purchased for $10 in advance from a team member, or on the night of the event. Tealights inside the bags illuminate them for a very special lap around the track.
All of the money raised that night goes directly to Genesys cancer patients and their families. Last year’s event raised over $58,000! Proceeds were used to help pay for transportation to and from cancer treatments, medication, medical equipment such as bath benches, rental equipment such as wheelchairs, private pay aides, and other special needs not covered by health insurance.
Entrance to the event is free, and so is team registration. There is still time to organize a team and participate! For more information, please call Genesys Health Foundation at (810) 606-6387.
